There are many ways to reduce your electricity bills, but just some of them work for your wallet and the environment.

One of those ways to save on your electricity bill while being environmentally friendly is by installing photovoltaic panels.

But how does a photovoltaic system function and how does their synergy with the standard energy grid work? We explain how in this article. If you remain with doubts or simply would like to ask a few questions AlgarPremium will proudly help you – contact us now and book your FREE appointment!

How does a Photovoltaic System Work?

Photovoltaic panels directly convert sunlight into electricity at an atomic level. Sunlight is made up of photons, or particles of solar energy. These photons have different amounts of energy, depending on the wavelength of the solar spectrum.

Some materials exhibit properties that provide an effect known as the ‘photovoltaic effect’ which causes them to absorb photons and release electrons. When these electrons are captured, an electric current can be used as electricity.

The current created in the panels is not yet ready for domestic use since the vast majority of domestic appliances use alternating current (AC), and the current generated by solar panels is direct current (DC). It is, therefore, necessary to use a current inverter.

Often it is intended to store energy for gradual use, instead of supplying power directly to the house, for this, the system can also include a set of batteries for storing electrical energy.

There are currently several options on the market, from the cheapest to the most expensive panels, when choosing your system, always keep in mind its price/quality, as this investment will be made so that it lasts for several years.
